China Trivia
My brother, Jayson, is having his 3-week vacation here in Manila, after working for 6+ months in Shanghai, China. After some chit-chat with my ‘bro, i was shocked when i found out the ff:
- They don’t have “Tikoy”, “Hopia”, and “Siopao” in China! All the while, i thought these food items were originally from China, and it ain’t true!
- They have a “Siomai”, but the cost is around Php 300 for a 4-piece of “Siomai”. “Siomai” is only available in restaurants. Luckily, we’ve got Henlin here!
- Original rubber shoes/sneakers (Nike, Reebok) is expensive compared here in the Philippines, considering that those companies have a factory there.
I was actually planning to buy Nike sneakers in China, coz i’ll be in Nanjing, China on the 2nd week of March. After learning this from my brother, i’ll just buy in SM Megamall for a new pair of sneakers.

Hello Jo, meron nman d2 tikoy, hopia at siopao pero inde tulad nun satin, ibang klase yung version nilang ganun, yung hopia nila mongo din, pero iba, yung tikoy nila meron laman n monggo, yung siopao nila meron monggo at gulay sa loob, ewan ko b inde ko makain..hmm medyo mahal yung mga orig d2 pero meron nmn peke mas mura din..

ah…sabi lng kc ng utol ko un e…gusto ko nga sana bumili ng siopao pag punta ko dyan e, di nlng cguro, baka ma-frustrate lng ako

they dont have tikoy here, the one in the red box. but in other provinces of china, they do have. another thing is siomai is not that popular, they go for a dumpling na look-a-like na rin ni siomai. shanghai dish is crap (sorry) and i havent tasted yet the sichuan or szechuan na they all say more tasty than shanghainese food. yung kase sa super bowl of china is cantonese. Shoes is too expensive nga rito. as of my experience. but you wont notice the original versus a fake one. shirt dito mura coz we found a place here almost like tutuban in divisoria and they’re selling shirts for 10 yuan (60pesos) for bulk pieces. overruns sya ng mga known brands.
